Lions quietly reshape depth chart as the playoff race intensifies
The Detroit Lions are once again proving that meaningful roster management doesn’t always come in the form of blockbuster signings. Sometimes, it’s the quieter, calculated adjustments—made at precisely the right moment—that keep a playoff contender on track. As the Lions enter a pivotal stretch of the 2025 season, the front office has moved swiftly to address depth concerns and reinforce key positions.
Veteran Help Arrives as Injuries Mount
The first move came with a departure. Detroit announced Monday that wide receiver Andrew Armstrong had been released from the practice squad, ending his developmental stint with the organization. While Armstrong showed flashes of potential, he hadn’t carved out a clear lane to meaningful reps, prompting the Lions to open the door for more immediate contributors.
In his place, Detroit added a pair of reinforcements—one in the secondary and one in the trenches.
The signing of veteran safety Damontae Kazee was the least surprising of the bunch. With Brian Branch officially lost for the season due to a torn Achilles, the Lions needed an experienced option capable of stepping in on short notice. Kazee, now in his eighth year, brings a steady, well-traveled presence and a knack for diagnosing plays on the fly. With depth stretched thin in the trenches, O’Connor’s versatility offers Detroit flexibility as they brace for a physical matchup against the Rams.
