Lakers vs. Bulls in Limbo as Snowstorm Turns Travel Plans Into a Waiting Game

“Don’t hold your breath” as Los Angeles tries to fly out of Dallas amid NBA-wide postponements

If you’re a Lakers fan setting your alarm—or clearing your evening—for Monday night hoops, you might want to slow that roll.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Lakers were still set to attempt to fly out of Dallas for their scheduled matchup against the Chicago Bulls. But with a brutal snowstorm ripping through large parts of the South and Midwest, this is starting to feel less like a normal road trip and more like a game of weather roulette.

And right now, the odds aren’t great.

A Schedule That Looks Good on Paper… for Now

Technically, the Lakers–Bulls game is still on the books for 5 p.m. PT on Monday. The NBA hasn’t pulled the plug yet, and the team is reportedly trying to make the trip happen.

But even the original report carries a warning label: don’t hold your breath.

Dallas departures are already tricky, and the idea of landing in Chicago—while the Midwest is getting absolutely hammered by snow—only adds another layer of uncertainty.

The NBA Is Already Hitting Pause

This isn’t happening in isolation. The league spent much of Sunday postponing games left and right due to the same storm system.

Mavericks vs. Bucks? Postponed.

Nuggets vs. Grizzlies? Also postponed.

Pacers in Atlanta and Sixers in Charlotte? Both pushed to afternoon tip-offs on Monday just to work around the weather.

In that context, expecting the Lakers to thread the needle between grounded flights and icy runways feels… optimistic.

So What’s the Most Likely Outcome?

While there’s a chance the NBA could simply push the tip-off back later on Monday, that doesn’t seem like the cleanest solution. The Lakers are scheduled to play again Wednesday in Cleveland, which opens the door for a more logical move: postponing the Bulls game and sliding it to Tuesday.

At this point, the scenario that feels least likely is the one currently on the schedule—Los Angeles playing in Chicago on Monday night as planned.

Bottom Line

Until the weather clears and planes are actually in the air, this game remains very much in limbo. The Lakers may be trying to fly out, but Mother Nature is still holding all the cards.

And in this storm, she’s been winning all weekend.
