Colin Cowherd Predicts Steelers Will Miss Playoffs Again in 2025, Ending Tomlin’s Winning Streak

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has never experienced a losing season during his tenure, but some experts believe that streak could finally end in 2025.

On his show The Herd, Colin Cowherd boldly predicted that the Steelers won’t make the playoffs this year, extending their playoff drought to nine years.

For much of Tomlin’s time in Pittsburgh, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made life easier, but since his retirement, the Steelers’ offense has struggled, ranking near the bottom of the league in scoring for several seasons. The team averaged just 18.1 points per game in 2022, 17.9 in 2023, and 21.9 in 2024.

While Tomlin has always been known for his defensive expertise, Cowherd says the offense needs to improve—and fast. “If it takes you seven or eight years to fix the offensive line and you still can’t get it right, and Pittsburgh still can’t… other coaches like McVay, Reid, and O’Connell can do it in an offseason. You’re outdated,” Cowherd said.

The Steelers enter the 2025 season with a brand-new quarterback group and major losses in George Pickens and Najee Harris. While additions like DK Metcalf and rookie Kaleb Johnson bring hope, they still face a steep learning curve.

Tomlin’s future with the Steelers may hinge on finding the next franchise quarterback. Though he’s been impressive maintaining winning seasons under tough circumstances, fans and critics alike are eager for a playoff win—something Pittsburgh hasn’t had in nearly a decade.

In Pittsburgh, regular winning isn’t enough; the city expects title contention, and the pressure is on.
