The Pittsburgh Steelers landed star wide receiver DK Metcalf after the Seattle Seahawks decided to move on from the two-time Pro Bowler. Seahawks GM John Schneider recently shared the inside story behind the trade.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Schneider explained that the move wasn’t about money or contract issues. Instead, it came down to Metcalf’s clear desire to leave Seattle after several seasons with the team.
“DK and I had very open talks over the last couple of years about his future,” Schneider said. “It became clear he wanted a fresh start, and after the Combine, we had direct conversations that made it clear it was best for both sides to move forward separately.”
Schneider emphasized that there was no bad blood between the team and Metcalf. “It wasn’t about animosity. He just really wanted a new opportunity,” he said. “This wasn’t something we expected going into the offseason, but it worked out well for both clubs.”
Metcalf, known for his deep-threat ability developed alongside Russell Wilson in Seattle, will now step in as Pittsburgh’s leading receiver following the trade of George Pickens to Dallas.
