Jaire Alexander’s Dad Spills the Tea on His Son’s Move to the Ravens
Big move alert: Jaire Alexander, the former Packers All-Pro cornerback, is now a Baltimore Raven. He just inked a one-year deal worth $4 million — with a shot at earning an extra $2 million in bonuses if things go right.
But while fans were busy wondering what went down with Green Bay, Jaire’s dad, Landis Alexander, jumped on ESPN Wisconsin to clear the air.
Turns out, Jaire actually wanted to stay in Green Bay — he just wasn’t feeling the contract they offered. According to his dad, the deal was full of “roster bonuses” but zero guaranteed money or signing bonus. Basically: all risk, no reward.
“There needed to be a base. A guarantee. Even if it was just a couple million,” Landis said. “But they offered nothing solid. Just a bunch of maybe-money.”
And for anyone thinking Jaire was being greedy? Landis shut that down fast.
“He wasn’t mad. He loved Green Bay. He loved the people. We thought he’d be there long-term — heck, we owned three properties there!”
But behind the scenes, things got messy. The Packers tried reworking his deal. Jaire, who was set to make $16.15 million, didn’t go for it. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, they even tried to trade him — multiple times, including during the draft.
Landis called the idea that Jaire was “unwilling” to negotiate nonsense. In his words, “The unwillingness was on them.”
Jaire’s time in Green Bay had some highs — like his five-pick All-Pro season after signing an $84 million extension in 2022 — but injuries have held him back the past two years. Still, he’s betting on himself in Baltimore, and the Ravens are all-in.
Oh, and there’s a cool reunion twist: Jaire’s teaming up again with his old Louisville buddy — MVP QB Lamar Jackson. Lamar was reportedly begging the front office to sign him. Safe to say he got his wish.
If Jaire can stay healthy, Baltimore’s secondary is about to be scary. He’s joining a group with Marlon Humphrey, rookie Nate Wiggins, and safety Kyle Hamilton. Plus, they just drafted Georgia safety Malaki Starks in the first round.
The Ravens ranked 31st in pass defense last season. That’s… not great. But with Jaire in the mix? Things could change fast.
