While general manager Brad Holmes has consistently emphasized building through the draft, the possibility of adding a proven veteran could be too tempting to ignore. One name that has surfaced in discussions is DeAndre Hopkins, the three-time All-Pro wide receiver who remains one of the most experienced and reliable pass-catchers in the league.
Would signing Hopkins be a strategic move for the Lions, or is it a luxury they can’t afford?

The idea of Hopkins donning the Honolulu Blue has gained traction, with Max Gerber of Pride of Detroit making a case for why the Lions should consider the veteran receiver. Beyond his on-field performance, Hopkins brings leadership qualities that could benefit Detroit’s young receiving corps. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid recently praised Hopkins for his mentoring abilities, highlighting his willingness to work alongside younger receivers to elevate their game.
For the Lions, having Hopkins in the mix alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams could give them one of the most dynamic receiving trios in the NFL. The question remains: Is he worth the price?
The Financial Question: Is Hopkins Worth the Investment?
Hopkins’ potential contract will likely be the biggest factor in the Lions’ decision. Estimates suggest his asking price could range anywhere from $6 million to $15 million per season. If Detroit can secure him for around $10 million or less on a short-term deal, the move could be a no-brainer. However, if his demands climb closer to $15 million annually, Holmes and the front office might decide to pass.
