Trump Turns a Blind Eye as Iran Sends Deadly Drones to Russia
While Trump loves to brag about putting “maximum pressure” on Iran and choking off its oil profits, there’s one thing he seems fine with: Iran selling drones and missiles to Russia, which are being used to attack Ukrainian civilians.
In the past two years, Iran has made tens maybe hundreds of millions from supplying Russia with deadly weapons. Under Biden, both countries faced sanctions for this. But under Trump? Silence.
Experts are baffled. Former US ambassador to Ukraine, Steven Pifer, said he doesn’t get why the Trump White House won’t challenge Russia over this. Others point out Trump hasn’t seriously addressed the growing partnership between Russia, Iran, China, and North Korea.
When asked why he hasn’t acted, Trump dodged the question, vaguely acknowledging Iran’s drone capabilities but offering no real plan. Follow-ups to the White House, Treasury, and State Department were ignored.
Since Russia started running low on weapons after invading Ukraine, it turned to North Korea for artillery and Iran for drones and missiles. Trump’s supposed “maximum pressure” order barely even mentions this focusing instead on Hamas, the Houthis, and Iran’s oil sales.
Experts say this is just another sign the US is quietly switching sides under Trump backing Russia, instead of standing with Ukraine. Even Trump’s own former adviser John Bolton says Trump is basically siding with Putin now.
After a missile attack killed 38 Ukrainians, Trump hinted it was Ukraine’s fault for fighting a bigger country. One of his advisers even suggested ending the war by letting Russia keep four Ukrainian provinces basically rewarding Putin for his invasion.
Recently, the US voted alongside Russia against a UN resolution blaming Russia for the war. Trump also blamed Biden for the conflict and claimed he wasn’t being manipulated by Putin.
Former US officials say it’s clear what’s happening: the US is abandoning Ukraine and cozying up to dictators. They warn that by the time Americans, even MAGA supporters, realize what’s going on, it might be too late.
